The Fourth of The July!

The 4th is my favorite holiday! Here are some of my best memories:

Swimming in Tutu and Kapuna's pool as a kid. Sparklers!

Dressing up as outhouses for the neighborhood parade with my friend, Megan. Costume: a refrigerator box

Dressing up as synchronized swimmers for parade with Megan. Cosume: plastic pool with a hole cut in the middle.

TPing the assembly grounds the night of the 3rd. Going back with my sister when we were waaaaay too old to still be TPing and getting scared that we would get caught. We hid in the bushes from the little kids.

Getting stranded in the middle of Lake Minnewashta on a Seadoo for several hours by myself. I had the best seat for fireworks!

Boating on Minnetonka: Big Island and tubing behind boats with crazy drivers!

Happy 4th of The July, Everyone! Have fun grillin' and chillin'!

I remember watching fireworks at Lafayette. Sitting on the hill by the lake with our paper grocery bags full of home-popped popcorn. Passing out pennies wrapped in famous quotes. Singing patriotic songs at Grandma and Grandpa L's.

I would say sorry about the Sea-Doo, but I think it was Josh's fault. Or was it Linds? It was some wild, flip-the-whole-thing-over manuever.

Freedom!

I have always had trouble recalling things from my childhood - most of my memories are sort of hazy. For instance, I vaguely remember sitting on a blanket on the Fourth of July with some people and watching fireworks by a lake. The man was nice - I remember calling him "Dad" and I called the woman he was with "Mom." After awhile, I remember they took me by the hand and led me to another blanket where my family was sitting. It's a good memory.

I too love the Fourth. It reminds me of wonderful childhood and young parenthood memories where family bonding was strong and love of country was proudly proclaimed.

Great memory of the pennies and quotes, Jen. Grandma L loved that!

1976 was really fun too. Jen, Eric, and Allee re-created the famous painting of the three revolutionary war parade. Jen, are you the one who wore the disposable diaper on your head? Also, remember Dad sitting on the tiny wooden rocking horse as we sang "The Ride of Paul Revere."

The Breezy Point years are mostly of sharing the 4th with the Assembly Grounds: parade, games, and the lip sinc contest at night. Allee and Becky as the Andrew Sisters is the most memorable act. I also remember a year with Ra'Shede and Xavier dressed as All-American boys for the Assembly Grounds parade and games. I've got to get those pictures out and show them or they'll never believe it!

Ash, I love those 2 Ashley/Megan collaborations for the parade. Those were the years when I actually had some good ideas, right?

Now I love the 4th as we celebrate in a new way around the pool with patriotic music blaring. It is a day that makes it clear how lucky we are to live in the U.S. of A!

Some favorite parade costumes. . .

The Bad News Bears
Alice in Wonderland (Me) Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (Mamadala and Eric)

I loved also to watch the fireworks down by the Assembly Grounds (easy to get to and easy to leave!)

Of course, I also had 10 years of 4 of Julys with Jaxon's friends (lots of golf, boating, drinking) Big J always gave a good rendition of 'God Bless America' for everyone.

I remember not wanting to sit on the rocking horse because I was 'too big' to do something like that so Dad sat on it for me when we sang and G and G L's.

Good try, Mezzo, but your goody-goody mom would never do anything like that. And Allee thinks she is such a "rules follower." Yeah, right. It's all an act.

Remember the "band of Indians" where you were all holding instruments, dressed in Native American garb, and Ashley was the papoose on Jen's back? I think that was a good one too.
